The Cannon Method

I saw a real need to develop a new way to work with our horses that was coming from a building up, vs tearing down model. I set out to not only learn the most natural ways to inspire and motivate, but also to understand the science of learning, changing the brain, releasing trauma and maximizing potential.

There are so many horses left behind bc they learn differently, or just have blocks from previous experiences. I wanted to develop a program that could unlock their unseen potential, and truly the potential in all horses.

There is a part of horse training and development that has been almost completely ignored, the human in the equation. I think other programs are based in techniques, forgetting that the effectiveness of those techniques is dependent upon the human delivering them.

I want to offer concepts for both humans and horses. I want to address them independently, so that we can build the best communication possible.

Sheldon’s mother died early, so he didn’t develop an understanding of boundaries that foals usually get from mom. He would either freeze, front feet stuck, head in the air, or overreact and run away from new or scary things. His body was very stiff, and he was challenging to turn or redirect once he made a decision.
