We adore our Poshies, and know once you meet them, you will too. From there fluffy coats, to their melt your heart eyes, our Poshies are truly one of a kind!
The Poshie is a cross between the Pomeranian and the Shetland Sheepdog. I became interested in Poshies in the early 2000's when the availability of quality Toy Sheltie breeding stock was very low. I adored the tiny Toy Shelties, but many of those raising them were either breeding 'runts' or breeding super closely related dogs to try to get the size. I understood the danger in both of these practices and wanted to see if I could add a more affordable option for my clients that desired a tiny toy-size dog that looked like a Sheltie.
I had a couple super AKC Toy-size Sheltie girls, but they were very expensive to buy and many that I tried would not cycle, conceive and/or freewhelp easily. There were people out there dying for a little piece of Heaven, but there just were not enough to go around. By looking to the breeds that originally created the Sheltie in the Shetland Isles, I was hoping to breed an excellent option for the client that desired a companion and had no interest in AKC showing. Little did I know that years later the AKC would add a registry for crossbred dogs like the Poshie to compete in AKC Agility alongside the purebreds.
The characteristics of the Poshie, like all dogs, lies in the personalities of the parents. I wanted to use parents that bred together would actually produce a better dog than either of the parent breeds. They are athletic, friendly dogs who never meet a stranger. They are outgoing and playful. The shyness of the sheltie is made brave by the pom, the pushiness and yappiness of the pom is tempered by the sheltie. It creates this beautiful friendly companion! They do not have the herding obsession many shelties do, but are super smart and want to learn everything you can teach them. Of course the breeder must be super selective in choosing the parents, but when they are, the result is a gorgeous, fabulous companion!
Health has always been my number one priority, followed by temperament. The 'hybrid vigor' that crossing two completely unrelated breeds decreases the possibility of recessive health problems that now occur in both breeds (and most breeds) from 'line-breeding' (in-breeding). When we started we had only our vet exam and a couple health screenings available. Today I do full genetic screenings on every dog we hope to breed. We only add dogs that are completely clear from MDR1, VWD, DM, CEA, GM and we only breed dogs who's hips are graded 'Excellent'. This is not industry standard, but when I started breeding Toy Shelties and Poshies, I wanted to produce a superior companion for today's educated buyer.
We started with half Toy Sheltie half Pom crosses. They were fun little dogs and everyone loved them, but I wanted more Sheltie characteristics in my puppies. The 1/2 Pom puppies still look very Pom in the face, have very curly tails and the grooming demands are pretty intense. When I did the next cross, 3/4 Toy Sheltie 1/4 Pom, the look radically changed. Now they looked almost like full Shelties with a super refined face. Gone was the super curly tail, the round, domey skull and pinched muzzle. Grooming became easier with less matting undercoat, and the whole picture became one that Poshie lovers and Toy Sheltie lovers both adored! Now we are doing 7/8 Toy Sheltie 1/8 Pom and they are stunning! If you love Poshies or you love Toy Shelties, this is an excellent option for you!

When Twinkle was born, I knew instantly she was spectacular! A daughter of our best Poshie producer ever, Onyx, and our stunning AKC Hansel, she was everything I had hoped for and more! Her tiny (10" and 6lbs) full sister Honey Bunny was gorgeous too, but was too tiny to successfully have puppies. When Twinkle happened to be a bit larger (12" and 12lbs), I was thrilled! We know she had the tiny genes of her family in a body (the largest girl they ever had) that could hold and freewhelp puppies! You can only imagine the tears streaming down my face when she delivered her first litter with ease, and they were as tiny and stunning as those her tiny mom delivers!
Twinkle is a total love-bug and LOVES everyone! She is a quick favorite of everyone that visits here, as she is the first on their lap giving them kisses! She has always been wickedly smart and showed excellent potential in agility when she went for her training. She has naturally tipped ears, the thickest, most luxurious coat ever and eyes that can melt the toughest critic. She looks full Toy Sheltie and produces 7/8 Toy Sheltie puppies that also look full Sheltie. The precious puppy-like expression will mesmerize both Poshie and Toy Sheltie clients. If you get a chance at a Twinkle baby, don't pass it by!

The moment I pulled the bag off magnificent Whimsy at delivery, I knew she would never leave, that face and her color made her an easy keeper! Whimsy is a tiny (11" and 7lbs) daughter of our legendary Poshie mom Onyx and our fabulous AKC boy Bullet. Although Onyx herself is a bi-black, Whimsy is the only tri (and the only non-sable) girl her mom has ever had. She got her dad's rich copper highlights, incredibly expressive face and brilliant mind! Whimsy just lives to please us! Whimsy is light and refined, with a silky, long, flowing coat that rarely sees a brush or needs a bath. She stays super black and shiny all through the heat of the summer out working with us on the farm, which is very unusual as most tris fade to dark brown rather quickly.
Despite her tiny size, she, like her mom, delivers easily and is a great loving mom. Her puppies have loads of flashy white and wonderful personalities! If you are looking for a loving devoted companion, get a Whimsy puppy! She produces 7/8 Toy Sheltie Poshies that look just like full Shelties. We hope bred to our tiny James Dean, we will get some ittsy bittsies in both mahogany sable and rich tri! Don't miss your little bit of Whimsy!
